Conference Meet Results

Posted by admin under: Announcements.

Our swimmers did a great job at the A and B Meets!  Here are a couple things to note:
1) Ribbons and Medals are awarded by WMSL — We do not process these in any way other than distributing them to the swimmers.  The WMSL awards the following:
B Meet –  Medals for “B” individual events places 1-6; ribbons for “B” individual events places 7-12.  Ribbons for “C” individual events places 1-12.  Relays are awarded ribbons for places 1-3.
A Meet - Medals for “A” individual events places 1-6; ribbons for “A” individual events places 7-12.  Medals for “A” relays places 1-3; ribbons for “A” relays places 4-6.
Please note that this is different than the preliminary meets in which each swimmer receives a ribbon for every event, i.e., swimmers only have WMSL ribbons/medals depending on if they placed in the top 12.
2) Best Time Ribbons – According to the WMSL Winter meeting, the league was supposed to issue best time ribbons at the meets — but they were not included in our bag of ribbons.  Mike is checking in to this.  Assuming this is not going to happen, we have printed off the best time labels from the meets and will be using our orange NCST generic ribbons, i.e., they won’t say West Michigan Swim League, but they still provide the swimmers the award that they deserve.
Attached is the “Improved Times” report for the Championship Meets.
3) All unclaimed ribbons that were left in the buckets will be placed in the swimmers packets that we hand out at the End of the Season Celebration.
4) For the A and B meets, attached are results reports for NCST swimmers by name and by event.  Also attached are the official meet results reports that list all swimmers in the meet for the B meet and the A10&U session.  At this time, we have not received a copy of the results for the 11-14 A session.  We have the results files for our team, but not the report.

51 swimmers had improved times across 70 events (many had improved times in more than one event!!!).  See the Improved Times files below to see who.
4) The Meet
WOW!  3 hours and 45 minutes for 104 races.  Going into the meet I was predicting 1:30pm as a end time with a stretch goal of 1:15pm.  We smashed that goal.  I think there are several factors for this, including…
- Flyover starts – obviously this moved pretty quickly — in fact, it was hard to keep up as unfortunately the timing system and Meet Manager software don’t always talk well so I have to manually key in the results.  A big thanks to Dan and Tim who did great as starters, Joy as the announcer, Dan and Mark who were the scorer’s spotters I keyed in results, and all the timers who executed the instructions given to them right before the meet on how to line the swimmers up.
- Marshals – again kudos!  This is role is the gateway to a smooth meet and this was done with perfection.
- Timers — Great plunging!  Okay, this sounds weird, but we had almost universal backup times which means we only had to ask for stopwatch times about 6 times (except for one lane during a 25Y event which had an equipment problem).  This cuts out delays.  Even on the times we had to get the stopwatch times, this was done after the next race started because the timers record times on every race.
- Swimmers and Coaches – excellent job jetting to the marshaling area and swimming fast!
All this resulting a blazing 27.7 races per hour (compared with the first meet of 25+ races per hour and a two year average of about 24.3 races per hour).
I also want to give a shout out to Dan, Joy, Don and Mark who got the meet started on time.  You would not have known it, but there were a ton of changes and we didn’t have the final Meet Program printed until about 8:40.  I was finishing up other start of the meet reports through the first few heats and this team got the meet off to a great start.
